Structured cabling business networks

We install and certify CAT6 and CAT6A structured cabling systems, using Fluke equipment for certification and providing a point-to-point test report. Each project includes a preliminary survey, a cable routing plan, rack assembly and organisation, the labelling of all sockets, and performance testing.

We have already certified installations comprising 456 network points in public buildings and laid 6,000 metres of cabling in a data centre. We work in occupied buildings, phasing the work so that operations are not disrupted.

At the end, you will receive the full set of documentation: a network map, certification reports and a warranty for the installation.

A well-designed network is invisible: everything just works, every day. A makeshift network costs money — slow speeds, connection drops and lost team hours. DataRoad designs your local network architecture to suit your company’s operations: scaled to meet your current needs, ready to grow in the future, and fully documented so that you never have to rely on anyone’s memory.

We install certified structured cabling — Category 6, 6A, 7 and fibre optic — including design, testing and a warranty. For a decision-maker, this means one simple thing: an infrastructure that supports the company’s growth over the next 15 years, without the need for repeat works or budget surprises.

Not all sites are connected by cable — warehouses, industrial units or separate buildings are connected via professional wireless bridges. Our certified technicians select the right technology for each situation and ensure a stable and secure connection between all your company’s sites.

Structured Computer Networks for Businesses
Installation, Certification and Premium IT Support

A poorly installed computer network is not just a technical problem — it is a risk to the business. Slow performance, instability, unexplained failures and rising maintenance costs are, in most cases, a direct consequence of a cabling infrastructure installed haphazardly, without certification and without qualified technicians.

DataRoad installs, certifies and maintains structured IT networks for businesses in Portugal — using certified technicians, premium-quality equipment and a rigorous process that ensures long-term performance, reliability and scalability.

What is a Certified Structured Computer Network?

A close-up of a network patch panel with multiple RJ-45 Ethernet ports and grey cables plugged into them in a server rack, showing the data cabling.
The certification measures attenuation, crosstalk, delay and length in each pair — and compares these with the limits for the contracted category.

A structured cabling system is a cabling infrastructure organised in accordance with international standards — TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801 and EN 50173 — which sets out how cables, sockets, patch panels and racks must be installed, documented and tested to ensure maximum performance and longevity.

The certification of a structured network is not a mere bureaucratic formality. It is proof, measured using specialised equipment, that every network point installed meets the performance requirements for which it was designed — and that it will continue to meet them for years to come.

Without certification, a network may:

  • Operating at a speed lower than that agreed with the operator
  • To cause packet loss and instability in VoIP calls and video conferences
  • Limit the performance of critical systems such as servers, NAS devices and surveillance systems
  • Demanding costly rework when problems arise — inevitably — after the project has been completed

With DataRoad, every network connection delivered to the customer is tested, certified and documented. The certification report is yours — for life.

DataRoad Structured Cabling Installation Services

Network Design and Planning Before laying a single cable, DataRoad carries out a full technical survey of the premises — floor plans, distances, access points, bandwidth requirements by area and integration with existing systems. The network design is delivered to the client before work begins, showing the location of all points, cabling routes and material specifications.

Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A Structured Cabling Installation of Category 5e, 6 and 6A copper cabling for data, voice and security systems — using cables from certified manufacturers, along with cable glands, protective conduits and professional fixing. Cat6A supports speeds of 10 Gbps up to 100 metres, making it the recommended choice for new installations that need to be future-proofed.

Installation of Racks and Patch Panels Assembly, organisation and cabling of racks and technical cabinets — including patch panels, cable organisers, power feed-throughs and adequate ventilation. The way the rack is organised determines how easy it will be to maintain and expand the network in the years to come.

Certification of Network Points Using Fluke Equipment Certification of each network point installed using Fluke Networks measurement equipment — the international industry standard. The certification report includes the results for all measured parameters: attenuation, NEXT, return loss, delay skew and length — with each point’s pass or fail status documented and provided to the customer.

Fibre-optic cable route Installation of single-mode and multi-mode fibre-optic cabling for backbone connections between floors, buildings or areas of the campus — including fibre splicing, loss testing and comprehensive documentation. Essential for larger-scale installations where the distance or required bandwidth exceeds the limits of copper cabling.

Integration with Wireless Networks and Active Systems Structured cabling infrastructure forms the foundation upon which the wireless network, switches, servers and all active systems operate. DataRoad integrates the cabling installation with the configuration of active equipment — Ubiquiti, Cisco, Dell, Fortinet — ensuring a comprehensive and coherent solution, rather than a collection of components from different suppliers.

Complete Network Documentation Delivery of complete technical documentation — an up-to-date network diagram, numbering of all points, certification reports, brand and reference numbers of the materials installed, and a maintenance guide. A well-documented network is worth ten times more than one without records when it comes to expanding, modifying or troubleshooting.

Testing and certification are not the same thing

Testing involves connecting the two ends and checking that there is a connection. Verification involves taking measurements using calibrated equipment, comparing the results with the limits set out in the standard, and issuing a report signed for each point.

The difference only becomes apparent years later, when intermittent faults arise that nobody can explain — and there is no baseline measurement against which to compare them. That is why certification is the one thing that should be cut last in a budget.

Not all premises are the same. Modern offices, hospitals, hotels, data centres, universities and industrial premises have specific requirements that a standard installation cannot meet.

DataRoad has a proven track record in installing premium networks for demanding environments — where downtime is not tolerated, user density is high and integration with critical systems requires above-average technical rigour.

Networks for Hotels and the Hospitality Industry Cabling infrastructure for hotels with hundreds of rooms, communal areas, back-office facilities and hotel management systems — designed to support high device density, separation of guest networks and centralised management.

Networks for Clinics and the Healthcare Sector Facilities that integrate data networks, DICOM imaging systems, networked medical equipment and VLAN separation between clinical and administrative areas — with GDPR compliance and absolute reliability.

Networks for Universities and Higher Education Campus infrastructure comprising multiple buildings, with a high density of users and integration with academic systems — designed to last for decades, featuring a fibre-optic backbone and high-capacity switching.

Networks for Offices and Corporate Headquarters Structured cabling installations in open-plan offices, meeting rooms, reception areas and central backstage areas — with a refined aesthetic, concealed cable routing and seamless integration with the architecture of the space.

Office Relocations and Expansions DataRoad supports companies through office relocations — from designing the new network to dismantling, relocating and reinstalling the existing infrastructure — minimising downtime and ensuring that the new premises are up and running on the scheduled date.

Certified Technicians — The Difference That Can Be Measured

Any company can lay cables. Certifying a network is another matter altogether.

DataRoad employs technicians with specialist training in the installation and certification of structured cabling systems, equipped with calibrated and up-to-date measurement tools, and with extensive experience in projects of all sizes — ranging from an office with 10 network points to installations with over 400 certified points.

Our installation process strictly complies with the relevant international standards — which means that the certification results provided to the client are valid for the purposes of the cable and component manufacturers’ warranties, and may be presented to auditors, insurers or future purchasers of the facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cat 6 or Cat 6A?

It depends on what will be transmitted over the cable and for how long. Cat 6 is sufficient for the vast majority of offices; Cat 6A is justified where 10 Gbps per workstation is anticipated, where there are long runs, or where high-power PoE is required.

Can we make use of the existing wiring?

Quite often, yes. We certify what’s already in place and set out, point by point, what passes and what doesn’t. Making use of half an installation is common practice and saves a great deal.

How long does it take?

It depends on the number of points and the building. An office with thirty workstations can typically be fitted out in a few days; a building that is already in use requires work to be carried out in phases, which extends the timeframe.

What is documented in the end?

Drawings showing the layout, a map and identification of all sockets, a diagram of the frame and the certification report for each point.

Frequently asked questions about structured cabling

What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A?

Both support high speeds; Cat6A guarantees 10 Gbps over longer distances and offers better immunity to interference — recommended for new installations intended to be long-lasting.

Is it worth having the wiring checked?

Yes. The certification proves that each connection complies with the standard and prevents problems that are difficult to diagnose later on. It is the difference between a network you can trust and one you cannot.

Can you keep the business running without any interruptions?

Yes — we plan the work to minimise disruption, including working outside normal hours where necessary.
